Starting point

The challenge

A competition gives the jury minutes per entry. The office's concept — a glazed hall cantilevered over the water, lit from inside like a lantern — needed to be understood at a glance, and the mood of a summer evening on the lake was the argument, not the floor area.

What we did

The approach

Two views, both at blue hour: from the promenade, with the hall glowing over the water and people on the pier, and from the lake, where the cantilever reads. The film follows a boat approaching the pier, forty seconds, no voice-over, the building revealed as the camera turns.

Three weeks from the office's SketchUp model to the submission, with daily previews so the architects could steer the atmosphere.

Outcome

The result

The entry was placed second of twenty-three and the office was invited to the follow-up study. The jury report singled out the clarity of the lakeside image.
